Program description - September 2025

Are you interested in teaching English in various settings in Canada or globally? In the Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) Ontario Graduate Certificate program, you will learn theory of language acquisition and the foundations for teaching the English language through engaging applied in-class experiences. In addition to classes, you will complete 50 hours of field placement where you will observe and teach an ESL class under the guidance of a certified English language instructor.

Upon completion of part 1 of the program, you can choose to apply for the TESL Canada (Standard I) certificate. As a graduate from parts 1 and 2, you are able to apply for the TESL Canada (Standard II) and TESL Ontario OCELT and ICTEAL certifications.
